'For Us'
socially engaged performance
2021
This socially engaged performance took place in the village Novi Chiflik and at the town square of Kyustendil, Bulgaria in June 2021. As an act of eco-activism, the artist collaborated with locals to clean 3 km on the bank of the river Struma, which was a victim of pollution after heavy rain raised the water level in February 2021 and brought tons of rubbish downstream, which locals speculated to have originated from multiple illegal landfills close to the riverbed. The group gathered all the waste in bin bags that were collected by a lorry, which drove back to Kyustendil where it parked in the middle of the town square as an act of protest.
Some of the art makers created a circle around the lorry while holding hands. This was an act of solidarity to demonstrate the need for collective work towards a more survivable future.
